Lay joined the team in 2004 as an editorial designer before making a move to become an advertising designer and within three years was promoted to Advertising Design Director. He was instrumental in the development of Providence Media which has now become Hey Rhody Media Company. Lay helped to launch So Rhode Island, The Bay Magazine, In Providence, So Rhode Island SUMMER, So Block Island, the STYLE WEEK publication and many more.
